WHO AM I?
I'm an Anglo-American writer from New York and London who has been teaching since the '80s.
WHAT's MY BACKGROUND?
I come from Performing Arts where i was a writer, composer and director -- as well as a teacher -- in L.A. mostly, but also Paris, London, Dublin and New York City.
WHAT ARE MY QUALIFICATIONS?
I've been given over a dozen press awards for writing, composing, and performance and have been teaching for over 30 years.
My education was up to Ph.D. level (Psychology) - but is incomplete!
WHY DO I TEACH?
Because I love to learn.
WHAT IS MY TEACHING STYLE?
Relaxed, humorous, investigative.
WHAT IS MY FIRST VALUE?
Open-mindedness. This means we are unattached to being "right" or "correct" all the time. We are flexible and are not identified with being "right or wrong", so it doesn't hurt us to be "wrong". In fact, in my view, our mistakes are the windows we can fly out of -- for real learning!
WHAT WAS MY MOST PRESTIGIOUS JOB AS A TEACHER?
Trinity College Dublin - or perhaps, the University of Paris.
WHAT CAN I COVER FOR YOU?
Grammar, syntax, style, idioms, how language varies by social context, how language is changing, stagecraft (for those who do public speaking)
WHAT DO I ENJOY ABOUT TEACHING?
I enjoy helping people become authentic communicators who are clear about what they want to say and
how to say it in a way that rivets their listeners!
WHO HAS STUDIED WITH ME?
Teachers and professors
Students in Performing Arts schools
Prisoners in the CA. Prison system
Members of the Irish government
